MGN Online

Florida lawmakers are expected next week to hold committee hearings about the Miami Herald’s investigative series into the Department of Juvenile Justice.

On Monday at 4 p,m., the Senate Criminal Justice Committee is slated to consider some bills and hear a presentation from the Department of Corrections.

Lawmakers on that panel will also hear from Juvenile Justice officials on their assessment and response to reports of physical and sexual abuse as well as so-called fight clubs involving youthful offenders.

A similar hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice.
