Florida Channel

Attorney General Pam Bondi kicked off this year’s Human Trafficking Summit Monday in Orlando.

During the one-day summit, Bondi announced ride sharing service Uber is working to fight human trafficking in Florida.

“In Florida, we are their test state…Uber has launched a program, here in Florida, and they are reaching over 40,000 Uber drivers, here in Florida, and they are training them on human trafficking,” she said.

She also highlighted several organizations, that she says are doing great work in trying to combat the modern slavery practice.

“The U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking in Tampa…they’ve opened Florida’s first boy’s safe home,” Bondi added, to applause. “That’s a very big deal.”

Among Monday’s topics of discussion was how many human trafficking victims are young boys as well as young girls.
