AFL-CIO Passing The Digital Hat For Irma Victims

laborsouthflorida.org

The Florida AFL-CIO is still determining how many of its approximately 1 million active members, retirees and their families were impacted by Hurricane Irma.

But spokesman Rich Templin says the group is raising money and collecting building materials to help as many as possible.

AFL-CIO Florida raised $30,000 in 48 hours to help Harvey victims in Texas, Templin says, so willingness to give shouldn’t be a problem.

“This is the brainchild of our president, Mike Williams, who was really impressed by the outpouring of support from Florida for our brothers and sisters in Texas and realized there is a lot of potential for help.”

Templin says all contributions will be welcome at “flworkersfund.org.” The  money will provide direct support or pay for building supplies distributed through the union’s 10 local councils.
