St. Pete Mayor Picks Up Climate Change Banner

Outraged over President Donald Trump’s unilateral withdraw from the Paris Accords, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman is vowing to take up the slack.

The Democratic politician has become the poster child for the Sierra Club’s Mayors for 100 Percent Clean Energy initiative.

Kriseman says the Tampa Bay region is already struggling with sewage spills brought on by excessive rain events.

“Just as an example, in a 35-day period, we got 24 inches of rain. We normally get that in six months. Most of our systems were never designed to handle that.”

Thirty cities have already joined the initiative.

Kriseman plans to wave the banner later this week on Miami Beach when he attends the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
