Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s gubernatorial bid is gathering momentum as he picks up top-tier endorsements and some honorable mentions by one of Florida’s leading pundits.
Gillum continues to take heat for using a city email system to broadcast campaign announcements.
But that hasn’t cost him endorsements from TV heavyweight and People for the American Way founder Norman Lear, his former boss; Democracy for America, Howard Dean’s progressive brainchild, and Congressman Alcee Hastings.
Now, Tampa Bay Times political editor Adam Smith is calling Gillum magnetic, skillful, and a polished speaker who may be the Democrats’ best hope.
Smith also mentions the e-mail albatross and calls Gillum his own worst enemy.
Gillum is fighting former North Florida Congresswoman Gwen Graham and Orlando businessman Chris King for the nomination, but the Democratic field is expected to grow.
