Scott: Spill Bill Just 'Common Sense' Legislation

Governor Rick Scott is praising lawmakers for passing an emergency pollution notification bill.

Last summer, Scott issued an emergency order requiring polluters to give notice within 24-hours of a major toxic spill. But business groups sued to block the order and won.

Now Scott is praising lawmakers for passing what has become known as the spill bill. It requires polluters to notify the state within 24 hours of a major spill, and regulators are required to notify the public.

Scott says he looks forward to signing what he calls “common sense legislation” into law.
