Political Observer: Gillum Wise To Launch Early

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is smart to launch his gubernatorial campaign early, says one veteran observer.

University of South Florida political scientist Susan MacManus says the popular Democrat needs time to build name-recognition in a wide-open race.

MacManus says voters still smarting over Hillary Clinton’s defeat could be eager to support another potential contender, former Democratic Congresswoman Gwen Graham.

“A sizeable portion of registered Democrats are minorities, but a sizeable portion are also women, and there is an overlap. But I think that’s why both Gwen Graham and Andrew Gillum are eying this governor’s race.”

Gillum stumbled out of the gate and was forced to apologize for using an official email server for campaigning.
