It's Official: Gillum's Running For Governor
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is making it official with a social media post -- he's running for governor.
The 37-year-old’s political star began rising sharply when he took to the rostrum at the Democratic National Convention and spoke passionately about his humble upbringing in South Florida.
Gillum would be Florida’s first African American governor, but he faces a tough fight for the nomination. Former Congresswoman Gwen Graham and wealthy Orlando trial lawyer John Morgan are also considering a run, just to name a few.
Any Democratic nominee would potentially face a well-funded and better known Republican contender in Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. House Speaker Richard Corcoran appears to be laying the groundwork for a run from the conservative right.
Already, Gillum’s hometown paper, the Tallahassee Democrat, is raising questions about Gillum’s use of the city email system.
