Clay county sheriff Darryl Daniels is tapping outgoing state attorney Angela Corey to be his general counsel.
Clay County sheriff Darryl Daniels says Angela Corey’s more than 30 years of experience will help train officers on proper execution warrants and probable cause.
Corey rose to national prominence—and riled the politically powerful NRA—for prosecuting George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin. The outgoing state attorney for Florida’s fourth judicial circuit is responsible for about a quarter of the state’s death sentences according to Harvard’s Fair Punishment Project. Thanks to Corey’s tenure, the same group highlights Duval County as one of the country’s four outliers when it comes to the death penalty.
Corey lost her reelection bid in the August primary.
