The head of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is coming up on his two-year anniversary on the job. FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen—who has more than 30 years in law enforcement—has held his current post since 2014. And, he thanked Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet for his appointment.
“It’s hard to believe, but next Friday, will be two years since you appointed me to this position,” said Swearingen, during Tuesday's Cabinet meeting. “I would like to say that was one of the most humbling days of my life. I would like to thank each of you for the support you have given me the last two years and the confidence you have placed in me. Thank you.”
“Thanks, Rick,” the Governor responded. “You’ve done a great job.”
How Swearingen got the job was surrounded by controversy. Initially, Swearingen—also Governor Scott’s former bodyguard—assumed the role in the interim, after the Governor ousted former FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey.
