It’s been three weeks since the formal call went out, but so far, just three attorneys have applied to replace retiring Florida Supreme Court Justice James Perry.
Fifth District Court of Appeals Chief Judge C. Alan Lawson waited two weeks before breaking the ice with his application. Dan Gerber, a partner with Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, in Orlando, was the second.
Gerber defends chemical companies in personal injury cases. He made the short list for state Supreme Court in 2009, but was not selected. Osceola Circuit Judge Patricia Strowbridge is the latest applicant.
The Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission expects to forward six names to Governor Rick Scott by the end of the month. It will be Scott’s first Supreme Court appointment.
