Former Opponent Wants Trump-Bondi Investigation

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s former opponent is demanding a federal investigation into Donald Trump’s illegal, $25,000 contribution to Bondi’s reelection campaign.

Dan Gelber, a former federal prosecutor, represented Miami Beach in the Florida House for nearly a decade before he ran against Bondi and lost in 2010.

Gelber told reporters in a conference call that Bondi should not have accepted the money a week after New York prosecutors had announced their investigation into the unaccredited, for-profit, Trump University.

“Those people who felt victimized in Florida, they probably are despondent and have little faith, knowing that the decision of the person who is supposed to protect them was made with a $25,000 check from the person who they think ripped them off.”

Gelber spoke a day after Bondi had a sometimes heated exchange with reporters. She denied ever considering an investigation, or even knowing, at the time, that Trump University students were complaining.

Reminded that Trump frequently brags about buying politicians, Bondi said Trump wasn’t referring to her.

“I would NEVER, EVER, trade any campaign donation -- that’s absurd – for, for’ for some type of favor for anyone. He donated to multiple candidates, Democrats and Republicans alike.”

Gelber said federal prosecutors should investigate, even though they would inevitably be accused of playing partisan politics in an election year.
