Christian Coalition: Solar Is A Family Value

The head of the Florida Christian Coalition says he’s willing to risk the wrath of his conservative backers when it comes to energy policy.

Southeastern Regional Coordinator Ash Mason is linking arms with Florida environmental groups fighting monopoly utilities and Amendment 1. And later this week, Mason is heading to Washington, D.C. for the National Conservative Clean Energy Summit.

“We are here to take care of the planet for God. And that’s really where the Christian philosophy comes in with energy policy. You know, on the very first day, God created light and said it was good. I think it’s still good and we should be using it.”

Siding with liberals doesn’t mean the coalition is abandoning its opposition to abortion and gay marriage, Mason says. Conservative GOP Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Cory Gardner of Colorado are summit headliners.

A Miami native, former WFSU reporter Jim Ash is an award-winning journalist with more than 20 years of experience, most of it in print. He has been a member of the Florida Capital Press Corps since 1992.
