Gillum Praises Former DNC Chair For Stepping Down

South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz deserves credit for her service, but she was right to resign as Democratic National Committee chair, says Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.

A day before he is scheduled to take the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Gillum acknowledged the party still has some healing to do.

“I think she didn’t want to be a distraction to this election, she did not want to create a side show. And so she, through her own devices, decided that she step aside and allow us to be clearly focused on getting Hillary Clinton elected.”

Die-hard supporters of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders called for Wasserman Schultz’s head after leaked emails revealed her favoritism for Clinton during the bruising primary. They spent the first day booing most convention speakers, but Gillum says the party will unify.
