With No Clear Frontrunner, U.S. Senate Race Like No Other

Pundits are scratching their heads over one of the most competitive and perplexing U.S. Senate races in Florida history.

The five best known Republicans include two congressmen and the scions of Cuban immigrant families, Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez Cantera and Bradenton developer Carlos Beruff.

The Democratic slate includes two congressmen, Patrick Murphy and Alan Grayson. Grayson, a millionaire hedge-fund manager, faces an ethics investigation.

Jim Ash talked to University of South Florida political scientist Susan MacManus about the race.

A Miami native, former WFSU reporter Jim Ash is an award-winning journalist with more than 20 years of experience, most of it in print. He has been a member of the Florida Capital Press Corps since 1992.
