Right To Try Act Expands Marijuana Industry, How Much Is Unclear

Brett Levin

Florida’s nascent medical marijuana industry just got bigger, thanks to Gov. Rick Scott’s signature.

A new law will grant terminal patients access to the drug.  And George Hackney of Hackney Nurseries is happy to see it addresses legal challenges for existing growers.

“It put an end to the challenges that we see out there,” Hackney says, “it did not end the challenges, but it gave an answer to the challenges and how far they could go.”

Shortly after state officials awarded licenses, about a dozen nurseries filed lawsuits.  Under the new law, each successful challenger will get a license.  Hackney holds the license for Northwest Florida.
