Publix and the Florida Retail Federation scored a legislative victory Wednesday when Governor Rick Scott agreed to put the brakes on a burgeoning “Ban the Foam” movement.
The grocery store giant uses Styrofoam containers at its deli counters and the trade group complains replacing the material would be too expensive.
A handful of cities already ban Styrofoam, but they will be exempted. However, environmentalists have been pushing a ban in the Orlando area.
The provision is tucked into a 52-page Department of Agriculture bill that also designates Tupelo Honey as the state honey.
