Governor Favors Replacing Confederate Statue

Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith
unknown

Prospects appear rosy for a measure replacing the statue of confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith in Washington D.C.’s statuary hall.  The governor is likely to sign the bill into law.

The House agreed to replace Smith’s statue Thursday—the Senate approved the plan two weeks earlier.  The measure hasn’t found its way to Governor Rick Scott’s desk quite yet, but it’s on the way.  And Scott’s pretty sure what he’ll do with it when it gets there.

“I’ve not seen the specific bill, but from what I’ve been told I’m going to sign it.”

Each state has two submissions in statuary hall.  Florida’s are Edmund Kirby Smith and John Gorrie—a pioneer in refrigeration.
