Florida may be getting a new tech-czar if a proposal continues its progress in the statehouse.
Rep. James Grant (R-Tampa) is proposing a wide-ranging technology bill that would establish a chief data officer charged with indexing information across state agencies. But Grant says he’s backing off changes to the state’s voting system.
“The electronic elections language has been pulled,” Grant says, “and so the strike everything really just focuses on the chief data officer, the data catalog and getting us to a place where we can provide a secure and validated driver’s license or state license digitally.”
Grant expects the changes will make it easier for state agencies to share information. The measure passed its second committee unanimously.
