State Rep: Excuse Disabled Floridians From Jury Duty

Rep. Neil Combee (R-Polk County)
Florida Channel

Many aren’t big fans of jury duty but for some disabled Floridians it can be a major hardship.  One measure in the Florida House looks to address that.

Rep. Neil Combee (R-Polk County) wants to excuse from jury duty people who are permanently disabled.  He struck on the idea after hearing about a friend’s nephew with a developmental disorder.

“His parents have carried him to the court house for jury duty on three different occasions in a short period of time,” Combee says, “and they feel like that obviously when he gets there he’s unable to serve as a juror.”

Combee’s measure would grant a permanent reprieve from jury duty with a doctor’s recommendation.

He listens to far too many podcasts and is a die-hard 49ers football fan. When Nick’s not at work he likes to cook, play music and read.
