Florida’s medical marijuana system isn’t quite up and running, but lawmakers are already making changes for the project. The sponsor says he is aiming to work out kinks in the program.
Florida’s low-THC cannabis provisions have spent a long time stuck in a contentious rulemaking process. Watching it work through the process prompted Rep. Jason Brodeur’s (R-Sanford) proposal.
“What this does is it takes away some of the what-ifs around who may prescribe,” he says, “and in what instance when we’re really talking about truly medical marijuana.”
The measure limits which doctors can recommend the drug and caps orders at a 30-day supply. It also imposes penalties on doctors who take compensation from dispensaries in exchange for prescriptions.
