The Florida House is considering a plan making it easier for counties to create taxing authorities known as community development districts. That could mean more assessments—particularly in rural areas. But Rep. Jennifer (R-Mount Dora) Sullivan expects the plan to reduce costs by making it easier for districts to merge.
“HB 971 slightly modifies chapter 190 of Florida statutes and allows residents to decide whether they would like to streamline the regulatory framework governing their community development district which in turn would reduce operating expenses and taxes,” Sullivan says.
Under Sullivan’s plan counties will be able to establish districts of up to 2,500 acres rather than the current limit of 1,000 acres.
