Immigration remains a major concern for many Americans—just look at the Republican presidential contest. But one Florida Democrat is pushing in the opposite direction.
Florida’s state constitution includes the same basic inalienable rights found in the federal version: life, liberty, pursuit of happiness. But it goes on to grant state lawmakers the ability to curtail property rights for illegal aliens. No restrictions currently exist. And Sen. Jeff Clemens (D-Lake Worth) wants to make sure they never do. If his proposal garners support from sixty percent of the state’s representatives and senators Florida’s voters will have the chance to change the state Constitution this November.
