Starting this month new signs are sprouting up in transportation hubs, emergency rooms and other places human trafficking victims might see them.
The signs are part of legislation passed by Florida lawmakers during the 2015 legislative session. The goal is to raise awareness and also provide information for victims about how to get help. Under the legislation, which went into effect January first, the signs must be posted in specific locations and be a certain size. It’s the last of several human trafficking related bills approved by lawmakers last session. Other measures passed increased penalties for human traffickers, and worked to ensure victims of the crime are protected and treated as victims.
