In an effort to crack down on fraudulent water claims state-backed Citizens Property Insurance is creating a specialized team.
The insurance company started putting the team together in March but Citizens Property Insurance Company President Barry Gillway says he plans to keep building it.
“There will actually be additional new hires during the course of this year and in 2016 to fill out the water team. The offset will be shown as a reduction in additional contingent staff and professional services,” Gilway says.
The team receives special training on non-weather related water claims. And Gilway says having a specific group of people responsible for reviewing those cases is helping to tackle the issue of fraudulent claims, many of which he says come from South Florida.
