A South Florida Democrat wants to prohibit employers from demanding access to an employee’s social media accounts. Under Lake Worth Senator Jeff Clemens’ bill, asking for logins or passwords could get an employer sued. James Miller, a spokesman for the Florida Retail Federation, says the bill may go too far.
“Our only concern is that when it comes to social media and businesses, is when an employee is on work time or using company equipment, that the employee isn’t doing something that they shouldn’t or harming the business or impacting another employee.”
However, Miller says his organization has yet to take a formal position.
