Florida women seeking an abortion will not be required to wait 24 hours—at least for now.
Leon County Circuit Judge Charles Dodson has ruled Florida’s new waiting period provision will be put on hold while a legal challenge proceeds. The court first blocked the law Tuesday, but the state’s appeal of that ruling allowed it to go into effect briefly. The judge convened an emergency hearing Thursday and again suspended the law. The measure requires women make two trips to a clinic and wait at least twenty four hours before receiving an abortion. The American Civil Liberties Union argues the measure violates privacy language in the state constitution.
