Legislative Leaders Expect Remaining Session To Move Quickly

Senate President Andy Gardiner talks to reporters.

Budget negotiations are now up to Florida Budget chairs--Sen. Tom Lee (R-Brandon) and Rep. Richard Corcoran (R-Land O'Lakes).  And Regan McCarthy reports legislative leaders expect talks to move quickly.

Senate President Andy Gardiner  told members of the Senate Wednesday he expects to see an offer from the budget leaders soon.

“I’m not sure if there will be an offer made today between Chairman Lee and Chairman Corcoran. I think everybody is still trying to get a handle on where we are,” Gardiner says.

Gardiner says he expects the final details of the budget to be finished up Monday. And he says that puts the legislature on track for a budget vote by Friday, June 19. Lawmakers are required to wait 72 hours after the budget is complete to hold a vote. The special session is officially scheduled to end on Saturday the 20.
