Lawmakers OK Giving Addicts Narcan

Heroin and pain pill addicts could get a better shot at surviving overdoses. The Legislature signed off on the measure before the House shut down the session early over stalled budget negotiations.

Narcan immediately reverses an overdose before the heart rate plunges fatally. Lisa Brandy testified last month that it would saved the life of her 18-year-old daughter, Brandi Meshad.

“My name is Lisa and this Sunday marks the four-year anniversary that I found my daughter no longer breathing.”

Twenty seven other states make the drug available outside of the emergency room. Governor Rick Scott has less than two weeks to sign or veto the measure or let it become law without his signature.
