A day after former Governor Jeb Bush sent the strongest signals yet that he is running for a president, a powerful Florida lawmaker appears ready to jump on the bandwagon.
Senate President Andy Gardner, an Orlando Republican, was asked to compare Bush with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, one of Bush’s top rivals for the Republican nomination.
While he didn’t issue a formal endorsement, he left little doubt who he prefers.
“I’m really going to be looking at executive experience and Gov. Bush certainly has a record to run on.”
National media paints Bush as a moderate suggesting he will have a hard time appealing to his party’s base, but Gardiner called Bush a true conservative.
