Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Wyllie Sues Over Debates

The Libertarian Party candidate for Florida Governor has filed a federal lawsuit over a gubernatorial debate.

On Wednesday, Governor Rick Scott will debate former Governor and Democratic Party challenger Charlie Crist. But there’s a third person running for the state’s top job, and Libertarian Adrian Wyllie says he should be included in the forum.

“I don’t think any debate organizer could exclude me with good conscience and then say they’re providing a venue for legitimate candidates," Wyllie said earlier in the summer  after a Quinnipiac poll found him with nine-percent support.

In a lawsuit, Wyllie says his rights are being violated by a rule requiring candidates to get at least 15 percent support in the polls. Wyllie says he understood the rule to be 12 percent. A recent poll by the Republican-leaning firm Optimus has Wyllie with 13 percent support.
