A South Florida woman who impersonates a mermaid and swims in her community’s pool has been banned from swimming with her custom-made tail. The woman aspires to be a mermaid performer at the Florida Aquarium.
This week, the Development Board of a Tampa-area community called FishHawk voted to keep the mermaid impersonator out of their swimming pool. Jenna Conti told the Tampa Bay Times she had the mermaid tail made after she and her 10-year-old son saw mermaids at the Tampa Bay Renaissance Fair. Conti, who makes her living as a hair stylist, had swum with the tail in the community pool until employees told her it violated a policy against swim fins.
