The House and Senate are so far sticking to their promises. Shortly after the Senate passed an ethics reform package, the House followed suit—passing a bill that would undo many of the changes to state elections laws that opponents say caused long lines and voter confusion during Election Day.
Florida doesn’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to voting. And during the Presidential Election the state gained unwanted attention when several counties couldn’t deliver results until days after the voting was over. The House bill increases early voting days, puts length limits on summaries of some ballot initiatives and increases early voting locations. Tuesday, it became the proposal to clear the chamber this session.
Democrats mostly praised House Speaker Will Weatherford for making the issue a priority. They had previously said they wouldn’t support a bill if it didn’t include expanded early voting. Republican Representative John Tobia of Melborne was only "no" vote. The proposal now moves to the Senate.
