Saturday Mail Delivery To Stop

Don’t expect any letters from loved ones or bill collectors on Saturdays come Fall. The U.S. Postal Service is ending weekend delivery of letters in August. The Post Office’s switch to only shipping packages on Saturdays is expected to save one of the largest government employers over two billion dollars every year. With internet usage up, letter mailing has taken a hit. But the internet isn’t completely a bad thing for business.

“Package Business is increasing; it’s up 14% so that’s one of the reasons we’re going to keep on Saturdays. A lot of people of buying things online and having them delivered through the mail stream.” Says U.S. Postal Service Spokesman Stephen Seewoester.

He adds just because Saturday letter delivery is ending, doesn’t mean any other operations are coming to a halt. Post Office branches will still be open on Saturdays and P.O. Boxes will still be filled.
