Affordable Care Act Could Impact Florida Jobs

Florida lawmakers say the Federal Affordable Care Act, stands to have a big impact on businesses and jobs in the state. Some businesses could choose to pay a fine instead of giving their employees health coverage. Others might decide to reduce employee hours to get around the requirement. That’s a concern Representative Travis Cummings, a Republican from Orange Park raised during a Wednesday hearing.

“I had one employer that approached me back in my district that felt that it was in his best interest with a company that does not offer benefits at this time, they’d rather pay the penalty inlew offering the coverage to those who work more than 40 hours,” Cummings said.

Cummings said he wants to be sure the implementation of the healthcare overhaul law won’t discourage businesses growth or leave more people looking for jobs.
