Florida Governor Rick Scott will soon be greeting Tampa Visitors coming and going from the city’s airport. The Florida Commission on Ethics ruled Friday the recording is okay.
The commission says getting to record a greeting at the Tampa airport counts as a gift because of the publicity Scott will receive. But the group says since it won’t cost the airport anything, it has no value.
“Just because something has an overall public purpose doesn’t make it legal under the gift law. You have to work through the analysis,” said Chris Anderson, the commission's counsel
Commission members said similar publicity type “gifts” will need to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
