Florida Sues Feds and Feds Sue Florida over Voter Purge
Florida Governor Rick Scott announced Monday that the state is suing the federal government over potential non-citizens on its voter rolls. Speaking on Fox News, Scott, a Republican, said the state is tired of waiting for access to the federal immigration database.
“I have a job to do to defend the right of legitimate voters, citizens of our state. We’ve been asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s database for months and they haven’t given it to us,” he said.
The state is suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security so it can more accurately purge potential non-citizens from voter rolls. This comes over the objections of the Voting Rights Division of the US Department Justice, which has announced a counter-suit to stop the state from pushing ahead in its plan to remove ineligible voters from the rolls.
