The Florida Supreme Court is hearing arguments on whether a foreign national whose three children are U.S. citizens qualifies for a homestead exemption. The Miami-Dade property appraiser originally denied the request, but two lower courts ruled in the homeowner’s favor.
And on the eve of National Police Week, Florida is holding a ceremony in recognition of the nine enforcement officers who have died in 2012 in the line of duty. Texas once again led the nation in law enforcement officer deaths, followed by Florida, California and Georgia with 12, and New York.
