Governor’s e-mails burst into the sunshine

Ever wanted to know what Florida Governor Rick Scott writes in his e-mails? Now You can. Scott’s emails and those of 11 members of his  executive office are now available online. A new website called “Project Sunburst” archives most of the emails coming and going from the governor’s office. (Like this exchange between Scott’s communications office and a New York Times correspondent.) Scott said the website gives citizens a “window into how their government works.”

“As you know, part of what I ran on was accountability,” he told reporters in a press conference unveiling the new site.

The project doesn’t replace the traditional method of making public records requests, through the Office of Open Government. But Scott said it will make information available more quickly. E-mails now available online date back to the start of the month.
