                                                               Daily News Digest 5/01/2012:

Florida consumers are starting to see some relief at the gas pump. The nationwide insurer AAA says those prices could continue to fall.

The first meeting of the Governor’s “Citizen Safety and Protection” task force meets today to begin a review of the statute referred to as the “Stand Your Ground” law. The task force has been criticized by Democratic leaders who are concerned about its membership. The group was set up following the shooting death of an unarmed black teen in Sanford, Florida in February.

And Florida’s State and Congressional voting maps have gotten the OK from federal officials. The pre-clearance news is a blow to several voting groups and democratic lawmakers who had hoped the courts would toss the maps.
