Daily News Digest 4/23/2012:
The state’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year features more state government employee layoffs, and another round of reduced retirement contributions. The move comes after last year’s mandated thee-percent contributions.
Also in the budget is money for the University of South Florida, mainly dollars to help the new Florida Polytechnic University get started. The Governor signed the bill that creates the 12th state school Friday, but there are many questions left about how the university—which has no accreditation, students or even a building-- is supposed to get up and running.
