Governor taps Detzner as new elections chief

Governor Rick Scott has chosen Florida’s new elections chief. As Sascha Cordner reports, Scott tapped Tallahassee insider Ken Detzner to replace retiring Secretary of State Kurt Browning.

Scott says he has every bit of confidence in Ken Detzner, a man who’s already had a short stint as a former Secretary of State under former Governor Jeb Bush.

“The benefit of Ken is that he has experience, which is very helpful, and I’m confident that he’ll work well with our other appointed officials. We’ve got a lot of work to do. The Secretary of State has been working a lot with our Department of Revenue and it’s important that our Secretary of State works well with our Department of Revenue and I’m very confident Ken will do that.”

Detzner also served as former chief of Staff to Secretary of State Jim Smith from 2002 to 2003, and has also worked in the Attorney General’s office. He replaces Kurt Browning, who plans to stay through Florida’s presidential primary and may run for school superintendent in Pasco County.
