Tallahassee, FL –
Manuel Valle is scheduled to be executed today. The date has been moved back several times due to concerns about a new drug being used by the state for lethal injections, but Regan McCarthy reports a spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections says today everything is running on schedule.
Death-row inmate Manuel Valle is charged with the 1978 murder of a Coral Gables police officer. Valle has received several stays of his execution because of a change in the drug cocktail the state is using to administer lethal injections, but Valle's most recent appeal was denied. Florida Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger says Valle ate most of his last meal.
"Fried chicken breast, white rice, garlic toast and a coca-cola."
Plessinger says Valle spent an hour in the morning visiting with his daughter, his sister and a niece during a "contact visit."
