Tallahassee, FL – A new poll shows retired Army Colonel Mike McCalister is shoring up his support in a four-way race for the Republican nomination for a Florida U.S. Senate seat. James Call reports McCalister was favored by 15 percent in a random telephone survey.

The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute questioned 510 Republican voters and McCalister led former U.S. Senator George Le Mieux by a statistically insignificant three points. However given the option more than half the respondents picked none of the above. Quinnipiac's Peter Brown said McCalister's lead is probably the result of better name recognition, he had finished third in last year's GOP gubernatorial primary.

"You know it is interesting. But it is worth remembering that LeMieux never ran statewide and McCalister ran in a Republican primary. I mean it is obviously good for McCalister, I don't think it is necessarily bad for the others. It shows that a number of people remember his primary run last time."

Rounding out the list in the Senate Survey, Winter Park businessman Craig Miller was favored by eight-percent and former state representative Adam Hasner by six- percent.
