Florida extends discount drug card program to ex-felons

Tallahassee, FL – Newly released inmates and offenders on community supervision in Florida can now save up to 75-percent on their prescription drug medications with the help of a drug discount card. As Sascha Cordner reports, the cards are a part of the Department of Corrections' initiative to help inmates re-enter society upon their release.
According to the Department of Corrections, research shows newly released inmates face several hurdles, including filling and paying for their prescriptions. So, FDOC Spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger says the department teamed up with Recovery Health Network to provide ex-convicts and offenders with prescription discount cards at no charge to the inmates or the Department. But, they were not the first.
"The Wyoming Department of Corrections utilizes Recovery Health network to provide cards on their inmates and offenders on probation. Once we found that out, we looked into it, and found it was a win-win for everyone involved."
The Recovery Health Network Medication cards have no expiration date and are recognized by more than 54-thousand pharmacies nationwide.
