Tallahassee, FL – Governor Rick Scott is being sued in an effort to get federal review for voter approved amendments that would change the way legislative and congressional districts are drawn. Gina Jordan reports.
Last month, Scott withdrew a request for federal approval of two new redistricting amendments to the Florida Constitution. The amendments, known as Fair Districts, prohibit gerrymandering districts to favor incumbents or a particular political party.
The lawsuit filed Thursday by Florida chapters of the League of Women Voters and the NAACP, among others, seeks to have Scott resubmit the amendments for Justice Department approval.
The Justice Department must okay election law changes to ensure they are not discriminatory.
