Tallahassee, FL – Unmarried couples in Florida may soon be getting the same benefits as those who have tied the knot. TaRhaun Russ reports.

State Representative Mark Pafford has filed The Domestic Partnerships Act.If passed, over five million couples will have the same benefits and responsibilities as married people in the Sunshine State.

Pafford says this bill places an emphasis on family and it will help Floridians take care of loved ones. He also says many residents are experiencing hardships during the tough economic times and this bill would help domestic couples protect their valuables.

The Senate version of the bill is sponsored by State Senator Eleanor Sobel.
