Tallahassee, FL – Lawmakers continued their conversation on the possibility of bringing an Arizona-style immigration bill to Florida Monday. Lynn Hatter reports, the opposition to such a bill includes pro-immigration groups and businesses.
Associated Industries of Florida, The Florida Chamber and the Florida Immigration Coalition joined together to oppose bringing an illegal immigration bill to Florida. The groups argued such a bill would hurt tourism, further sink the state's housing market and could lead to instances of racial profiling. The Florida Immigration Coalition's Maria Rodriguez.
"It angers us because these bills not only hurt immigrants, not only hurt Latinos, they hurt all of us. Puzzling, what is this really about? It's not about jobs, it's not about the economy, it's not about security. In fact, the proposed bills are bad for jobs, are bad for Florida's economy, are bad for our security."
A senate committee has been charged with looking at the issue and deciding what changes should be made to the state's immigration policy. Several bills have already been filed.
