North Carolina’s controversial House Bill 2 has affected more than just bathroom policy. The bill, which was signed in March, is now impacting college football.
Last week, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and its Atlantic Coast Conference decided to pull all championship events out of the University of North Carolina stadium. Leadership for the NCAA and ACC cited the new North Carolina legislation that forces people to use restrooms corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate. FSU President John Thrasher says he’s in support of the decision.
“I believe it reaffirms our values at Florida State University of equality, diversity, inclusiveness, and certainly non-discrimination,” he says.
New championship locations are still to be announced, but regular season games will remain at their scheduled sites. The Seminoles will host the UNC Tar Heels Saturday.
