The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Event on Tuesday, April 23, from 7:00-9:00 pm in Carrabelle, FL. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising Pink Moon and evening sky.

April’s full moon is traditionally known as the Pink Moon, and it heralds the arrival of spring. It is called the Pink Moon because it often aligns with the blossoming of a particular wildflower indigenous to the eastern regions of North America—the Phlox subulata. This early spring bloom, commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox, also bears the charming name "moss pink."

Visitors can enjoy an after-hours self-guided tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit for the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris, France. Guests can browse the unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.

For those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Evening climbs cost $10 and climb reservations are encouraged due to limited availability. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall and children under 12 (FREE) with ticketed adults. Pebble Hill Plantation is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a two-day plein air artist's workshop with nature artist Deborah LaFogg Docherty of Boynton Beach, Florida. This is a wonderful opportunity for artists to strengthen their skills in plein air pastel drawing with one of the regions award-winning photorealistic painters. Combining her two loves of nature and painting, Deb brings to life her artwork with vibrant color and exquisite detail. She has been studying wildlife in its natural habitat since she was a child on her family’s farm in Connecticut and has mastered her artistic expression in plein air technique and form.

This two-day workshop will include indoor and outdoor instruction (weather permitting) covering the topics of composition, contrast, color, subject photography, drawing, and sketching. The 2024 Carrabelle Riverfront Festival is a full day of family-friendly activities, live music, unique entertainment, colorful arts & craft vendors, and delicious food vendors, Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10 am – 6 pm. This year, the Carrabelle Chamber is thrilled to introduce the Adventure Family Circus who will be thrilling festival goers with three exhilarating aerial circus shows. Adventure Family Circus is an internationally touring small family circus show. They are an Aerial and Acrobatic show with acts including high flying aerial and acrobatic acts, aerial rope, aerial silks, aerial lyra, mini trampoline, juggling and comedy. It's a spectacle the whole family will enjoy!

Also joining the Carrabelle Riverfront Festival will be Redemptive Love Farm and Rescue bringing their petting zoo and feeding station. Adults and children alike love to enter and get hands-on with the sweet farm pets including chickens, ducks, bunnies, and young goats. At the feeding station guests will meet and feed animals like a llama, mini-donkey, mini-cow, goat, alpaca, or emu! It's a hands-on experience that both children and adults will cherish.

The festival will also feature the always popular activities for the kids, including children’s mini-train rides and a bouncy house. These familiar favorites add additional fun to the already entertaining atmosphere.

Feet will be tapping to the upbeat favorites from across the decades with talented musicians including John Jerimiah plus Kevin Andrew and the Rockulla Performers. Guests will also be delighted by wonderful dance performances of the Tallahassee Community College Dancers and the Forgotten Coast Dancing Witches. The entertainment doesn’t end there as there will also be fun music by DJ Beanie Baby throughout the day.

And of course the festival will feature the family-friendly Exhibitor Expo on Avenue B, hosted by the Carrabelle History Museum, with informative exhibits like a WWII military vehicle, the fire-wise cabin, shark jaws, animal skulls, and a display of Florida’s pioneer days. A wild animal ambassador, Moonlight, the Great Horned Owl will also be visiting from a local rescue. In addition Avenue B will host the Pet & People Cooling Station.

Visitors can browse tons of festival vendors, exhibitors, and booths with interesting arts and craft items, delicious food, and local displays as well as explore the local shops, museums, and restaurants for even more choices. There will be lots of yummy food to choose from like shrimp, conch fritters, Indian food, BBQ, plus festival treats like kettle corn, funnel cakes and shaved ice.

Aladdin shares what little he has with the less fortunate Agrabahns; we can also help our neighbors by bringing to the show, nutritious nonperishable snacks like granola bars, beef jerky, sandwich crackers, applesauce, fruit snacks, and vitamin-enriched juice boxes. Be generous, so generous!

Collection boxes will be at every performance and in the Trinity Catholic School office. United Way volunteers will distribute kits with our donations to individuals in the community facing homelessness and living in food deserts this summer. Thank you for making a whole new world of difference in our community!

This family-oriented event is held each year at Shell Point Beach on the Gulf of Mexico in Southern Wakulla. Regatta proceeds aid the American Cancer Society (ACS) in memory of Stephen C. Smith, a local sailor who died from a rare form of leukemia at the age of twenty-nine. Featured at the event will be sailboat and windsurfing races, beautiful sights and beach activities for non-racers, a catered dinner Saturday night, and a closing auction on Sunday afternoon. Watching the races and playing on the beach is free, and food is available for purchase at the Regatta Grille during the day. To participate in races or the catered dinner, a registration package must be purchased.

Venvi Art Gallery is pleased to present Leon Hicks’ solo exhibition "Drawings Through Time" from March 1st to April 28th. Aside from his current series of graphite drawings American Boy, select drawings from his series "My Home Town", "Iconic Capers", and his previously untitled sketches will be on display.
"Drawings Through Time" showcases numerous drawings and sketches from Mr. Hicks’ decades-long career. These works include his latest series of six graphite drawings titled "American Boy", nine works from his "Iconic Caper" series, and seven works from his series "My Home Town". Alongside those series, "Drawings Through Time" also features five of Mr. Hicks’ previously untitled sketches: three titled "Nude" and two titled "Pencil Drawing."
"American Boy" is Mr. Hicks’ most recent series of graphite drawings. He created this series of drawings in 2023 and has since made 3 more. Given Mr. Hicks’ extensive career and contributions to the arts, he decided to return to his roots, or metaphorical conception with this series of drawings. Mr. Hicks believes he is born American, before anything else. "My Home Town", another series featured in "Drawings Through Time", is a series of graphite drawings depicting Gainesville, Florida, Mr. Hicks' hometown. This series, influenced by cubist art, pays homage to Greco-Roman architecture, symbolizes the stature and solidarity of the U.S.
"Iconic Capers", created in 2006, is a series of monoprints created with Mr. Hicks’ copyrighted monoprint technique. This involves using oil pastels, mylar sheets, Elmer's glue, and Thai Unryu paper. The mylar sheets act as transfer sheets for the final print. "Nude" and "Pencil Drawing" are Mr. Hicks' previously untitled graphite sketches. "Nude" is titled as such due to its depiction of the human figure, while "Pencil Drawing" is named for its medium and lack of a defined subject unlike "Nude."
Mr. Hicks’ works have been displayed in various solo and group exhibitions nationwide. Many corporations, universities, and museums have also exhibited his works. These include The University of Florida, The 7UP Company, The Oakland Art Museum, Atlanta University, Southwestern Bell Corporation, Charleston Art Gallery, Tuskegee Institute, Brandywine Graphic Workshop, Albrecht Art Museum and the Library of Congress. Back in February 2022, he exhibited locally in Tallahassee’s City Hall with his show titled Indelible Marks. According to James Burke, St. Louis Art Museum’s director, “every major museum in the country ought to have a Hicks engraving in its collection as the St. Louis Museum does”.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Angele Bice is a 2013 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with a Certificate in Shelter Medicine. She owns a private practice clinic and has worked with a variety of animal shelters and rescues in South Carolina since graduation. Dr. Bice has treated over 250 heartworm-positive dogs a year in South Carolina. Dr. Bice joined the American Heartworm Society as a Board Member in 2019 and strives to improve the accessibility and affordability of veterinary care with an emphasis on community education while maintaining the value and integrity of the veterinary profession.

Tallahassee, FL – Venvi Art Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of "Dance of Hues," an exclusive solo exhibition by abstract artist Brinda Pamulapati. This vibrant showcase features 28 original paintings, each a vivid exploration of color and motion. The exhibition will run from May 17th to June 16th, with an opening reception on May 17th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Dance of Hues explores the dynamic interactions between colors, embracing the spontaneity of the compositions that emerge when solely being guided by interplay and contrasting hues. It draws inspiration from the concept of movement and expression, in a way that is similar to dance. Instead of tangible objects, hues are the main focus of this exhibition. Each piece portrays hues in varying poses that evolve and flow, similar to the fluidity of a dancer’s body, creating visual rhythm and dynamism through the movement of colors. The canvas itself for her works is a stage for the varying colors to express harmony amongst contrasting hues, and also maintaining balance through artistic expression.

Working primarily with acrylics, Pamulapati incorporates vibrant colors, unusual shapes, and rich textures into her art. Each color choice is deliberate, aimed at evoking emotional responses and challenging conventional perceptions of color. "The vibrancy in the colors acts like art therapy, uplifting the mood and providing a festive outlook," says Pamulapati.

Brinda Pamulapati’s artistic journey began in India, blossoming under the guidance of world-renowned artist Jacob Pichhadze at the Yazi School of Visual Arts, Toronto. Over the past 15 years in Tallahassee, she has significantly contributed to local arts, influencing cultural programs and bringing fresh perspectives through her dual role as an artist and gallerist. Since founding Venvi Art Gallery in 2015, her engagement with the art market has deepened, enriching her approach to both creating and showcasing art.

Her experience and knowledge also have earned her spots in panels relating to careers in the arts, and as a judge for several shows in Tallahassee and the Panama City Art Center.

She has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mathematics from Florida State University and is part of faculty for online university. She currently has her work on display at the Pensacola Museum of Art.

Curating the exhibition is Paloma Rambana, a Media Studies student at The New School in New York City. Rambana has a background in curatorial studies from Sotheby’s and has interned with the Council on Culture and Arts (COCA).
